The Opportunity

As an I&C (Instrumentation & Control) Project Manager, you will be the key figure for your assigned projects, overseeing their entire lifecycle-engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning-to ensure they meet HPC project safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.

Reporting to an I&C Senior Project Manager, your role involves managing projects in a matrix-managed, multi-disciplinary team, collaborating with contractors, and overseeing contracts managed by other parts of the HPC Project.

What you'll be doing

As an I&C Project Manager, you will lead project activities, ensuring alignment with broader HPC Project objectives. Your responsibilities include overseeing design principles, system design, manufacturing, integration, installation, and commissioning, primarily managed through contracts with teams.

Your leadership will be vital in assembling and guiding diverse project teams, defining key resources, and clearly communicating roles and responsibilities. This includes managing site construction through integrated contractor and HPC teams, driving the project toward successful completion. Other roles and responsibilities of this role also include:

  • Lead and foster effective project teamwork across a diverse, multi-disciplined, and multicultural team.
  • Develop and execute strategies and schedules to manage, organise, and execute the work effectively.
  • Align schedule dependencies between the project schedule, contractor schedules, and the overall HPC schedule.
  • Identify and secure resources to meet project requirements, ensuring SQEP maintenance and addressing any personnel shortfalls.
  • Drive project delivery to ensure it is completed safely, on time, within budget, and meets business and technical requirements.
  • Monitor and manage project progress, tracking against milestones, deadlines, and budgets, and reporting to key stakeholders.
  • Anticipate risks and issues, facilitate mitigation and resolution, and escalate as necessary.
  • Interface with other programmes and projects to ensure overall project progress and adopt best practices.

Who you are

To be suitable as our next I&C Project Manager, you should possess excellent presentation, influencing, and facilitation skills, along with outstanding communication and organisational abilities to develop relationships and maintain effective networks. Strong numerical and analytical skills, combined with a "can do" problem-solving attitude, are essential. A results-focused yet team-oriented approach is crucial. Other skills and experience required for this role include:

  • Proven track record of successfully delivering projects in complex and dynamic environments, with a strong emphasis on safety, security, and environmental responsibility, particularly within regulated sectors like Nuclear Energy.
  • Deep technological understanding of large-scale operations, focusing on Instrumentation and Control (I&C) systems and adhering to stringent UK regulatory standards for reliability and safety.
  • Extensive experience in overseeing contractors, consultants, and advisors throughout large-scale construction projects, utilising frameworks such as NEC or FIDIC contracts within regulated environments.
  • Comprehensive expertise in managing the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept through to final handover, including the critical delivery of safety cases as part of project requirements.
  • An understanding of quality management principles, ensuring robust assurance and control mechanisms are in place to maintain high standards throughout project execution.

Additionally, a degree and chartered status in engineering, construction, science, technology, or a related field would be advantageous however, not essential.
