Barnwood Park School is looking to appoint a full time, Design Technology teacher to deliver DT across KS3 and KS4.

The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher, committed to teaching our students so that they acquire a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject. They will create opportunities for students to develop and master many aspects of Design Technology and apply them to practical projects.

At Key Stage 3, DT is delivered through a carousel of subjects and we follow a knowledge-based curriculum where students also develop the skills necessary to progress successfully in the subject. The department have worked hard to ensure the curriculum is constantly evolving to meet the needs of all the learners and that intervention areas are identified and addressed.

At Key Stage 4 students' study the AQA course. Number of students opting to study at GCSE level are increasing. The successful candidate will teach Mechanical systems including structural and mechanical design; Material selection and knowledge of paper, metals, textiles, timbers, polymers; Use of powered equipment; Environmental and ecological issues; Product evaluation; Architectural modelling

The main purpose of your role will be:

To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students and to support a designated curriculum area as appropriate and contribute to raising standards of student attainment.To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students.To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential, including through offering a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities. Qualifications & Experience The successful candidate will: Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degreeHave successful teaching experience at secondary levelUnderstand the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning Have knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4, and of writing lesson plans, developing resources and assessing students' workBe able to work as part of a team and to develop and maintain positive relationships with all staffHave a good level of ICT skills,Be able to create a motivating and safe learning environment for all studentsHave good written and spoken communication skills and be able to communicate positively with parents, carers and other external agencies where necessaryBe able to lead and manage their own work effectivelyBe able to motivate students and raise their aspirations through a range of strategies Application Information: The closing date for applications is: Sunday, 5th May 2024
