London, Greater London, United Kingdom Lilian Baylis Technology School Full time

Required from September 2024

Inner London Pay Scale

"This is a very happy and caring school. Leaders know pupils and their families well. One pupil, typical of many, described the school as 'home.'" (OFSTED 2023)

Lilian Baylis Technology School is a mixed, 11-18, inner city school located in a new building at Vauxhall, London. We are a multicultural community school, which serves the local community, and we view this as one of our key strengths. We value the diversity of our school, and strive to ensure that our students feel represented, both at whole school level and within the curriculum.

The English team has outstanding practitioners who are passionate about both the subject and the students, and we are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic colleague to join the team. This is an exciting opportunity for both a teacher who is looking for their first teaching post, or an experienced practitioner who is looking for a fresh challenge. We offer a highly supportive and committed working environment within a culture of success. Our CPD provision is extensive and follows a research driven approach, which means that our teachers are at the leading edge of professional practice.

In addition to this, we have outstanding facilities for our students and teachers, including electronic whiteboards and visualisers in all rooms, as well as laptops for all staff. We have a range of online learning tools, including Educake Reading Plus, which can be used as a learning resource both in lessons and for Home Learning. Teachers also have a consistent room base for all their lessons, enabling them to make it a celebration for their subject and students.

Furthermore, student progress at both GCSE and A Level in English is well above national average, and has been consistently so. In particular, we are highly effective at bridging the gaps between disadvantaged students and non-disadvantaged students. We run an extensive intervention programme at Key Stage 3, which means students who have low prior attainment are able to work on "catching-up" with their peers. Our students are well behaved and ambitious, and they also value the school. All visitors to the school always comment on the calm and productive atmosphere of lessons.

At KS3 the English team has developed a highly praised curriculum that engages students through the use of diverse texts and relevant contexts. At KS4 all students study GCSE English Language and English Literature, and at KS5 we offer A-level English Literature, which is a popular subject. Those that study the subject at Key Stage 5 generally go on to study a related degree at university, including a substantial proportion of students gaining places at Russell Group Universities.
