Actuarial Assistant - Home Based - ARD1023196

We are on the lookout for a proactive Actuarial Assistant to join our team in the Geo Underwriting part of our business. This central role, reporting to our Reserving Manager, offers the flexibility of being home based though we also have several regional offices for a more hybrid role. As we want the best people for our roles, if you are not available full-time, let us know if you need flexibility at interview.

You will be responsible for providing high quality data processing and actuarial analysis to be used for performance reporting (i.e. reserving) to help steer our business and communicate our success to our insurer partners across a variety of product lines.

Geo Underwriting is a future-facing Commercial MGA with a focus on providing specialist insurance to niche markets. With a solid and supportive team of 15 people, the central Actuarial Team within Geo Underwriting is a great place to develop your career further. The role and team provide a platform to progress commercial and relationship building skills with senior internal and external stakeholders. We help Geo Underwriting succeed by supporting key stakeholders with reserving, technical and market pricing across a very wide range of products covering agriculture, protection, construction, commercial & property, marine and leisure.

What does an Actuarial Assistant here do?

This is an overview and not an exhaustive list of responsibilities. Collaborating with your line manager, you will develop your own objectives but focus on the following:

• Process data, including reconciliation, cleansing and other preparation ready for analysis.
• Assist reserving and on occasions, pricing analysis.
• Produce output to agreed deadlines and required standards of accuracy.
• Assist with the creation of waterfall charts bridging performance gaps and other forward-looking projections.
• Updating statements concerning the aggregation of risk, e.g. exposure to flooding by postcode.
• Constantly develop knowledge and skills by undertaking training in line with agreed development plan including mandatory training and keep up to date with technical, legal and market developments via use of various learning materials
• Maintain data quality and adhere to all relevant governance when producing work

What are we looking for in our next Actuarial Assistant?

• Previous experience working or studying in the field of actuarial science is desirable.
• As this role requires knowledge of statistics, a minimum of a grade B at A-level mathematics or equivalent mathematical knowledge is required.
• An awareness of general insurance is also desirable.
• Knowledge of data structuring, transformation and manipulation.
• Proficient user of spreadsheets and presentation software such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience in programming languages such as R, Python or SQL is advantageous.
• Experience of working with actuarial software for reserving or technical pricing would be desirable but not essential as training will be given on the job.
• Effective presentation of numerical outputs and able to summarise qualitative information.
