People Advisor

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a People Advisor to join the Sports Service as part of the team that oversees the registration of University sports clubs and societies. There are currently 77 University sports clubs and societies that register annually with the University Sports Committee via the Sports Service. These clubs and societies are separately constituted with the majority being unincorporated members associations run by volunteers (with the exception of two clubs which are incorporated).

The role holder will play an important part in the annual University registration process by reviewing people management practices across sports clubs and societies. They will identify areas for improvement and provide guidance and support to clubs and societies to enable them to consistently deliver effective, positive and inclusive people management policies, procedures and practices.

The role holder will create guidance documents and templates based on existing industry standards and support clubs in applying these to their specific context. They will provide procedural guidance, signposting and support to club committees and Senior Treasurers in dealing with people management related queries or issues. They will also provide briefing/update papers to the Senior Management Team and the University Sports Committee (including sub-committees).

The role holder will also need to keep appraised of welfare related support systems as well as external sources of support so that they can signpost members of the University and the staff, workers, contractors and volunteers in clubs and societies appropriately.

Candidates should have recent experience of working as a People/HR Advisor in a Small or Medium Enterprise (SME) or similar organisation/role. They should have CIPD Level 7 or equivalent level of knowledge and experience, including an excellent up-to-date knowledge of employment law. They should have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills and be able to engage proactively with voluntary student club officers/representatives, committees, Senior Treasurers and professional employees. Candidates should be able to use their initiative as well as being able to work collaboratively as part of a team, and be able to prioritise workload to meet multiple/competing deadlines and forward plan effectively.

The role is available as 0.5 FTE throughout the year or 0.6 FTE school term-time only.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
