The School of Archaeology, in association with St Cross and St John's Colleges, seeks to appoint an Associate Professor in Later European Prehistory, to start before the beginning of the academic year or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment will be initially for five years at which point, upon completion of a successful review, the post-holder will be eligible for reappointment to the retiring age.

The School of Archaeology, comprising the Institute of Archaeology and the Research Laboratory for Archaeology and the History of Art (RLAHA), is a major centre for archaeological teaching and research that strives to combine theoretical innovation with cutting-edge archaeological science. The successful candidate will become a Fellow of St Cross College and a Stipendiary Lecturer at St John's College. You will be based at The School of Archaeology, at one of our two main sites (36 Beaumont Street, Oxford, OX1 2PG or 1-2 South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3TG).

The main duties of the post are to conduct internationally significant research in Later European Prehistory, to teach and examine a range of topics spanning the Bronze and Iron Ages, as well as more specialised topics taught as options for undergraduate and graduate students via lectures, classes and tutorials, to supervise graduate research students, to contribute to admitting, teaching and examining of taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and to perform administrative and mentorship functions associated with teaching and research.

We invite applicants who have a PhD in Archaeology or closely related field (at the time of the appointment), a record of outstanding achievement in research, or evidence of outstanding research potential, depending on experience, along with the ability to teach effectively across a range of topics in Archaeology and Prehistory, experience of and a strong commitment to teaching, supervision and mentorship. Preference will be given to candidates with a portfolio of active fieldwork, and expertise complementary to the existing strengths of the School.
