We are a small company specialising in service, maintenance and installation of commercial refrigeration equipment. Due to recent expansion we require a mobile refrigeration technician ideally based in the Peterborough and Norfolk area.

Responsibilities and experience:


Working as a technician at Caterpro you will find yourself in a new location every day, from new cities and towns to coastal areas and national parks, no day is the same.

You will be working mainly in Peterborough / Norfolk areas.

A typical working day is eight hours, starting at eight in the morning and finishing at five in the afternoon, with a one hour break to be taken at your leisure.

On occasion you will be required to leave for work earlier than eight in order to make it in time for a fixed appointment such as a service or installation; however, you will not be expected to work unsociable hours and you will never be expected to 'work away'.

A typical working week is Monday to Friday, and you will be expected to be on standby for one weekend per month (see "Standby duty" below).


The type of equipment that you will be working on varies, most of the time you will be working on small integral refrigeration systems for which we will provide specific training.

These systems are mainly soft ice cream machines, display cabinets and slush machines; per contra, you will also need to be comfortable working on walk-in refrigerators and freezers.

The work will be predominantly diagnosing and repairing equipment although you will be required to install and give training on new equipment as well as carry out preventative maintenance (PPM's) during quieter winter months.

You will be working with HFC's so an F-gas qualification is required. There is no requirement to have any specific electrical qualifications.

However, a good level of electrical knowledge and competence is needed, as you will be expected to diagnose and solve electrical problems on three-phase equipment.

You should have some knowledge of the operation of both single-phase and three-phase compressors, squirrel-cage motors and transformers.

Since the majority of the work will be on integral systems, you will not be required to have any extensive experience with pipe work and basic ability in this area should suffice.

Despite this, good brazing ability is a must for some jobs that include replacing refrigeration components.


Finally, maintaining a good working relationship with our employees, business partners and customers is paramount to maintaining a happy and productive working environment.

As a technician you will not only be an ambassador for the company but in most cases, you will be the only face that many of our customers see.

For this reason, we expect you to be presentable, polite and courteous when at work, both when dealing with your colleagues and with customers.


Requirements:
City and Guilds F-Gas qualification (or equivalent).
Good electrical knowledge.
Level 2 NVQ Diploma in installing and maintaining refrigeration systems (or similar) is desirable.
Full UK driving licence.
Proof of right to live and work in the UK.
Fluent English speaker.
Good social skills, polite and happy to give training to small groups of people.
Presentable, with good food hygiene and timekeeping standards.

Standby duty:
As previously mentioned, you will be expected to be on standby for one weekend per month.

On standby, if any callouts are received you will be passed the relevant information via telephone and expected to provide technical assistance to the customer over the phone at your earliest convenience.


If you find it necessary, you should attend site to complete any diagnostics or repairs that cannot be solved remotely/via telephone.

There is a twenty-four-hour response time, meaning that you will never be expected to drop everything and head straight to a callout, you can always attend the next day.

You will receive compensation for being on standby and in addition to this, any callouts attended will be paid at overtime rates.

Guaranteed pay for 40 hours per week regardless of whether you work less hours than this; any overtime to be paid at 1.5x normal rate (this overtime rate applies to all time worked on standby).
