Job description
We are seeking an experienced and transformative leader to join our team as the Head of Operations; responsible for leading the DfT Operations team who provide shared services support for the Department of Transport.
In this role you will report into the Deputy Director for DfT Operations, whilst working collaboratively across the operational leadership team to share best practice.
You will lead all aspects of the successful delivery of key HR, Payroll, Finance and Procurement processes, ensuring operations align to agreed important metrics and SLAs.
You will ensure day-to-day activities run smoothly across the Team, whilst implementing improvements.As the leader in Swansea, you'll operate as the single escalation point, championing process enhancements and driving the UBS vision forward
You will work closely with colleagues across UBS and customers in DfT to align operational services with strategic decisions and realise the benefits within the function.
Responsibilities
Ensure the effective delivery of HR & Payroll and Finance and Procurement business processes and services to DfT end-users
Provide strategic management and leadership to the Unity Business Services (DfT) Heads of Service, operating as a single escalation point for complex risks and issues.
Support the Deputy Director of UBS (DfT) Operations in aligning operations with strategic objectives.
Develop and mentor the Unity Business Services Operations leadership team
Fully responsible for the wider integration of the Swansea Team into Unity and HMRC.
This role is primarily based in Swansea; however some travel may be required with occasional overnight stays.
Person specification
The Head of Operations is a leadership role responsible for the strategic oversight and management of key operational services within HMRC.
The role requires a strategic problem solver with a consistent track record in managing complex operations and delivering high-quality services.
The individual will be instrumental in leading change, advocating for standard methodologies, and ensuring that the operational delivery meets the needs of end-users.
Essential CriteriaSignificant experience in leading operations within a large, complex organisation.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
Excellent communication and partner management abilities.
Good understanding of shared services technologies, systems and best practice - including experience of Finance / HR systems
Demonstrated experience in delivering services that meet critical metrics and SLAs.
Desirable Criteria
Experience in public sector or government operations management.
A track record of leading successful transformational change.
Chartered Fellow CIPD qualification or Part/Fully Qualifies accountant (AAT/CIMA/ACCA etc)
