Youth Worker

Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent, United Kingdom Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council Full time

The Positive Futures Youth Worker role will be responsible for:

Delivery of the Positive Futures project on a full-time basis, which includes working two evenings a week as part of Blaenau Gwent Youth Service. The focus of the programme is to provide support to young people aged 11-25 who are either already involved in or at risk of being permanently excluded from school or becoming involved in the youth and criminal justice system.

The primary objectives are to prevent antisocial behaviour, youth crime and disorder though empowering young people to take control of their lives and realise their full potential. To accomplish these goals, requires the implementation of 3 key strands of work: Alternative Education Group, Community Referrals and Detached youth work.

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has opened for two enthusiastic individuals to join the Youth Service.

As a Positive Futures Youth Worker will take the lead in delivering an alternative education group, providing support, guidance and mentoring to young people who have been identified as at risk from being permanently excluded from school. Your goal will be to help them overcome barriers and successfully reintegrate back into school, equipping them with the necessary skills to thrive in full-time education.

To achieve this, you will create a tailored project that addresses the specific needs of each young person and incorporates elements such as basic skills sessions, qualifications, and the production of individual pieces of work. By doing so, you will assist them in overcoming barriers, enabling them to successfully reintegrate into school and effectively handle the pressures of full-time education.

In addition to working with young people from schools as part of the alternative education provision, you will also be required to support young people referred from the community. This will involve conducting consultations to identify individual needs, developing tailored plans and carryout the specific work needed. This could be done on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.

As the Positive Future Youth Worker, you will also carry out detached youth work across the Blaenau Gwent area providing support to young people aged 11 – 25, understanding their needs, linking where appropriate with other youth settings, and providing them with information, guidance, and opportunities. You will also be required to drive the Youth Services mobile provision.

This is a rewarding role that allows you to empower young people, improve community cohesion, and make a positive impact in their lives. By joining our team, you will be part of a dedicated group of youth work professionals working towards creating a brighter future for young people.

If you have studied Youth Work as part of a qualification that would allow you to be registered as a 'Youth Worker' with the EWC and it is not clearly identified in the qualifications title, please state in your application what was undertaken and to what level.

Thorough pre-employment screening is undertaken during the recruitment process.

The postholder will be required to complete an application for a Disclosure of Criminal Records.
