Brentwood Senior School is an academically selective HMC co-educational independent school with small class sizes and a happy, ambitious and supportive staff team. It is part of Brentwood School, a 3-18 HMC school of 1900 pupils, just 20 minutes from London Liverpool Street.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Teacher of Drama to join this high performing school in our well-equipped department. We welcome applications from experienced teachers as well as those at the beginning of their teaching career.

Brentwood School has an excellent tradition of engendering creativity amongst its pupil body. Many pupils have progressed to successful careers in the Performing Arts and the Drama Department is very much at the cultural heart of the School community. Pupils have plentiful opportunities to perform within the context of formal lessons and the regular cycle of school productions. Each year, a number of Sixth Form pupils successfully gain entry to Drama school or progress to read Drama (or closely related disciplines) at university.

The department is represented at all levels of the Key Stage 3 curriculum and many pupils elect to take it as one of their optional GCSE subjects. In the Sixth Form, Drama and Theatre is taught at A Level and as a Group 6 subject within the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and creative department which is extremely well resourced in terms of teaching materials, rehearsal/performance spaces and ICT equipment. The successful candidate will be able to inspire and enthuse our pupils to produce outstanding practical work. Similarly, they will possess high academic standards to ensure the continued strong performance of the department.

The Performing Arts Faculty stages over 70 shows, concerts and productions each year and there will be ample scope for the right candidate to contribute to one of the most varied and professional programmes in the South East. The department consists of five full time teachers and a full time Technical Manager. The department sits within the Performing Arts Faculty, which currently has over 40 staff in a number of roles both teaching and support. There is an excellent community feel to the Faculty and the successful candidate will join a welcoming and ambitious team.

Staff across both the Prep and Senior School enjoy a bespoke collaborative approach to professional development. We believe in being a research engaged school, with those that facilitate our in-house research programme being trained by the Institute of Education. We support many of our staff in obtaining external accreditation across a range of fields and are engaged with a number of national and international organisations. We are a highly supportive school that values the contributions made by a motivated and intellectually curious staff.
