Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Activate Learning Full time

About the role as a Chef Assessor:

Do you want to transform your career and pass on your hospitality and catering experience to the next generation?

Due to an increase in our provision, we are looking for a chef to teach, assess and support our apprenticeship provision within the Activate Learning Hospitality and Catering department at City of Oxford College. You will be responsible for the delivery, assessment, and tracking student achievement for the courses.

This post provides an excellent opportunity for an individual with passion and drive who is committed to enabling our students to unlock their potential and switch on to the power of learning. For example, a culinary arts student from one of our colleges has been crowned the Young Risotto Chef of the Year 2021 and we would love the candidate for this post to continue to drive competition experiences forward.

This is a permanent, full-time role, working 37 hours per week split across Oxfordshire and Berkshire.

What do you need to be a successful Professional Cookery Teacher at Activate Learning?

You will have worked in the industry as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, or Chef de Partie and you will have a passion for using this experience to develop the skills of the future generation.

An assessor's qualification is required, but as long as you have the qualifications and industry experience to teach on our Hospitality and Catering courses, and demonstrate the attributes to be an inspirational teacher, we can provide you with teacher training, development and support to equip you to teach in the FE sector.

Communication with industry partners is also a requirement for this role as we work closely with hotel chains, local restaurants, and contract catering employers to supply work placement, apprenticeships, mentorships and masterclass demonstrations for our students.

  • Experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, or Chef de Partie is essential
  • Qualified chef to level 3
  • An assessors qualification is desirable, or the willingness to work towards obtaining a qualification
  • It is desirable if you have a teaching qualification and worked within education as a teacher, but this is not essential
  • Strong grasp of the skills required in a professional kitchen, and how to teach them

You will also have strong organisation skills coupled with the ability to prioritise workloads and will benefit from being part of a supportive team, working in a varied and interesting role with a variety of opportunities for career development.
