The Dundee Imaging Facility provides access to state-of-the-art equipment and advice to support researchers, staff and students in the life, biomedical, and physical sciences across the University. The Dundee Imaging Facility houses >20 advanced light microscopy systems, including CLSM, WF-decon, SDCM, TIRF, MPLSM, FLIM and slide scanning.

This role will work closely with the Facility Manager and others to provide high-quality service provision. The post holder will offer high-level technical/specialist expertise and in particular assist/train new users of the facility to use and operate a wide range of light microscopes. This a key post central in providing high quality specialist support across the Schools of Life Sciences, Science and Engineering and Medicine. The post holder will be expected to work within the School of Life Sciences on the main city campus and in the School of Medicine on the Ninewells site (approx. 3 miles apart). Work between the 2 sites will be flexible and split according to demand. It is important that the post holder is flexible, capable of working under time pressure and has a proven track record in p roblem solving.

Your priorities will include:

  • Provide high level technical/specialist expertise to research staff and students across Schools, to enable them to meet their research goals and translate knowledge of advances in the field of advanced imaging/light microscopy into research success.
  • Provide user training and support for all advanced microscopy systems housed in the Imaging Facility in the School of Life Sciences on the main campus and in the School of Medicine on the Ninewells site.
  • Advise users on appropriate sample preparation to achieve optimal results using any of the imaging technologies housed in the Facility.
  • Where appropriate, and approved by the Facility Manager, provide long-term collaborative assistance to research groups that enables large imaging pr ojects to reach fruition.
  • Contribute to imaging courses to postgraduate students and to the University's established postdoctoral training programme in Imaging.

Who we're looking for:

  • Educated to first degree level, in a biological or physical sciences subject.
  • Extensive experience of all the main aspects of biological light microscopy, including experience in advanced light microscopy (biological).
  • The ability to work autonomously and clearly communicate complex, specialist information.
  • Independent thinking skills, utilising information from various sources including published literature and discussions.
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of Health & Safety, Good Laboratory Practice and Research Integrity.
