About the role
There is an exciting opportunity for a conservator to undertake practical conservation on objects for a major refurbishment of the Ashmolean Museum's Rome Gallery. The post will also support the work of the Objects Conservation Team more widely in all aspects of their work including loans, rotations, exhibitions and documentation. Although this post has a particular emphasis on archaeological objects, the conservation team's remit extends from prehistory to contemporary art.

The Conservation Department is a highly dedicated team of 13 full and part-time conservators, researchers and administrative staff where the ability to work flexibly to tight deadlines and as part of a team is essential. You will liaise on a day-to-day basis with members of the conservation team, exhibition curator, designers and other key stakeholders in the successful delivery of this project.

This is a 21 month fixed term, part time hours per week) post.

About You
You will have a postgraduate or graduate level professional conservation qualification in an objects specialism with significant experience of implementing conservation or preservation work in a museum, historic collection or similar setting.

It is expected that you will be actively working towards or having achieved accreditation under the Professional Accreditation of Conservator-Restorers (PACR) scheme.

You will possess specialist knowledge and work based experience of remedial and preventive conservation of archaeological (more specifically Roman) objects including glass, ceramic, bronze and stone. You will demonstrate a high degree of manual skill and routinely achieve an excellent standard of practical conservation work.
