Location: Wakefield Council

Rate: 45 per hour

Contract: Agency Position through Ackerman Pierce

About the Role:

Wakefield Council is seeking an experienced and dedicated Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of children and young people in care by ensuring their needs and voices are central to the planning and reviewing process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chairing Reviews: Lead statutory reviews for children in care, ensuring that their care plans are robust, appropriate, and implemented effectively.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor the quality and effectiveness of social work practice, providing critical feedback and guidance to ensure high standards.
  • Advocacy: Act as an advocate for children and young people, ensuring their views and wishes are represented and considered in all decision-making processes.
  • Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work closely with social workers, carers, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to care planning and review.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all reviews comply with statutory requirements and local policies, providing oversight to maintain the highest standards of care.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records of all review meetings, highlighting any areas of concern and actions required.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker: Must hold a recognized social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England.
  • Experience: Significant experience in children's social care, with a strong background in statutory reviews and care planning.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989, and guidance pertaining to children in care.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex cases and sensitive information.
  • Advocacy: Demonstrated commitment to advocating for the rights and needs of children and young people.
