Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom GE Full time
Job Description SummaryThis is an exciting and unique opportunity to help shape the future of aviation through this test equipment engineer role, working embedded with the Advanced Technology Organisation (ATO) at GE Aerospace.

We are looking for a hands-on, multi-skilled engineer/technician, with experience in a relevant setting, to support the safe demonstration, testing and verification of engineering prototypes in the advanced technology labs and further afield in customer labs.Job Description

The ATO at Bishops Cleeve has a portfolio of aircraft technology development projects, with topics ranging across Power and Avionics systems. GE Aerospace are active in aircraft electrification research and are developing high-voltage, high-power systems that put lab safety at the forefront. This role requires involvement in all these projects.

This role will have the full support of the site Test Equipment function and the successful candidate will maintain close contact with that group. As technology prototypes mature, there will be opportunities to support the transition from research into production.

This is a varied role with a high degree of autonomy – you will support the needs of technology projects by defining, implementing, and supporting test solutions to meet the requirements set out by the prototype design engineers.

The ATO group thrives on diversity of thought and welcomes applicants from any background where bridging the gap between great ideas and great products is important.

Role Responsibilities

  • Support ATO Systems Engineers by specifying, building, configuring, and maintaining test rigs for prototype units
  • Ensure safety-by-design for high voltage test systems
  • Prepare safety cases and method statements for TE, working closely with Health & Safety, Quality and lab managers
  • Coordinate with our on-site rapid prototyping facility and machine shop for any bespoke test equipment
  • Assist project engineers to carry out prototype testing.
  • Coordinate with Calibration department to ensure calibrations schedules do not interfere with project test schedules
  • Coordinate with customers on requirements where GE equipment is going into customer labs (and provide on-site support if necessary)
  • General support for ATO engineers when using test rigs
  • Specify and select equipment and components to be purchased
  • Work with your line manager for career development and performance reviews

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of lab safety
  • Test Equipment experience in a relevant setting
  • Strong electronics background
  • Enthusiasm for new technology and innovation
  • Good problem-solving and creative, solution-building skills
  • Strong systems thinking; able to understand the big picture
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge level comparable to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
  • Experience of working in an R&D or rapid prototyping environment
  • Experience of working in High Voltage (HV) labs
  • Ability to prioritize work, and communicate openly in high workload situations
  • Embedded software coding (e.g. Arduino, Raspberry Pi)
  • Experience using Speedgoat test systems or similar
  • Mechanical concept design
