We have an exciting opportunity for a Major Projects – Commercial Director to join our Wates Construction Major Projects team. Reporting into the Major Projects Director for the MoJ AHDP (Accelerated Houseblock Deployment Programme) portfolio of work, you will be accountable for commercial leadership on 3 large projects comprising the AHDP portfolio. This includes strategy, main and subcontract tender procurement, risk management, pre and post contract administration, margin improvement and people development.

Key Accountabilities will include:

  • Leadership of commercial function through all preconstruction, procurement, commercial delivery, and post contract activities.
  • Facilitate regular two-way discussions with commercial, operational teams and or development teams and update all on current strategic issues.
  • Ensure decisions taken are clearly communicated and that relevant individuals have clear guidance to enable successful outcomes.
  • Use all available resources to produce data to support regional business plans.
  • Regularly meet clients, consultants and or external influences to enable understanding of medium / long term trends, dynamics, opportunities, and threats.
  • Ensure that all projects have clear tender and delivery strategies published in a project business plan.
  • Ensure all bids have a commercial strategy, including demonstration of relevant added value, and where appropriate co-ordinated with the Development Strategy
  • Identify significant opportunities for change to add value across the business and effectively manage the change process.

To be successful in the role you will have significant experience in Commercial Leadership and worked on Construction schemes in excess of £100M.

Alongside this you will have strong leadership skills, including experience of managing and developing teams, and the confidence to successfully lead, influence and communicate at all levels to deliver targets.
