Background

The post holder will join the Chemistry groups led by Prof, Paul Anderson, Prof. Peter Slater, Prof. Gary Leeke and Prof Emma Kendrick, and will work alongside industry on the development of recycling strategies for Li ion battery high power anodes. This work will include detailed characterisation of these materials, as well as methods to regenerate these materials or recover the metals they contain. A truly interdisciplinary project within the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, this post will work closely with other researchers in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy and Materials. Working on this Industry sprint project associated with the ReLiB project, the postholder will operate within areas of specialism including characterisation and recycling of high power anode materials, analyse research findings and results. They will also contribute to licensing or spin out deals with demonstrated commercial success (such as revenues, asset or company sales, IP generated) and public understanding of the discipline.

Main Duties

  • Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as scientific experimentation, literature reviews, and research interviews
  • Analyse research data as directed
  • Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters
  • Develop or adapt techniques, models and methods
  • Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting with research
  • Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
  • Carry out administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the research
  • Promotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture

Person Specification

  • Degree or equivalent in relevant subject area
  • Practical experience of applying the relevant skills and techniques
  • Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively
  • Ability to access and organise resources successfully
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly
