SP Energy Networks (SPEN) are working to achieve network targets set by the Scottish and UK Government as part of our journey to Net Zero. SPEN is building a dynamic network to meet the changing demands for electricity and increasingly, renewable electricity - safely, securely and sustainably in the communities we serve.

As a Lead Commercial Policy Specialist within SP Distribution, you will be responsible for designing commercial policies, strategies and contractual terms for the Energy Networks business that fit a rapidly evolving energy landscape whilst ensuring compliance with Standard Licence Conditions in the journey to Net Zero.

The postholder will also be responsible for designing and manage a Contract & Connections Database for circa 4000 existing SPD & SPM agreements/contracts, they will oversee associated liabilities and obligations whilst providing visibility to aid network planning and operation.

Furthermore, they provide input to national codes (e.g., DCUSA, BSC), ensuring compliance with relevant Licence Conditions and industry standards.

What you'll be doing

As a Lead Commercial Policy Specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing key commercial policies and methodologies, spanning £1.2bn of connection offer activity, ensuring timely delivery, communication, and governance.
  • Supporting regulatory changes, rapidly changing regional policies, and other key emerging issues.
  • Delivery of relevant regulatory commitments & incentive performance (Ca. £2m p.a.)
  • Designing & managing a Contract Database for 4000 agreements / contracts, managing associated liabilities and obligations and providing visibility to aid network planning and operation.
  • Developing commercial terms for bespoke contracts/agreements (value of £50m-£100m by 2028)
  • Managing day to day responsibilities of industry codes (e.g. BSC, DCUSA), to ensure licence compliance and obligations are met, and to protect & improve the company's commercial and revenue interests in relation to any proposed Change Proposals.
  • Providing input and contribute to relevant government/industry groups to protect & improve the company's commercial & revenue interests.
