Thank you for your interest in the post of Subject Leader for English based at Westwood College. The school is part of The Talentum Learning Trust which comprises 9 schools within and around the town of Leek in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The Trust promotes high aspirations and excellence for all. Our aim is to develop a strong partnership between the academies, students, and the wider community to secure an outstanding learning experience for everyone. We have high expectations and strive to create independent learners fit for the demands of the 21st Century.

We are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner who will inspire our young people and lead our English and Media Studies Departments. This is an exciting opportunity to join our experienced team across key stages 3, 4 and 5.

The successful candidate will be dynamic, motivated, enthusiastic and a creative teacher. You will be committed to comprehensive education and keen to teach students in the 13 – 19 age range. You will be given every support in your professional development and the opportunity to be part of a forward-looking, high attaining and civilised community.

Westwood College is a well-established and successful 13-19 secondary school and shares a joint sixth form with Leek High School. In our most recent Ofsted Inspection (March 2019) inspectors confirmed that we remained a 'Good' school, noting that:

  • Teaching is engaging and creative in many subject areas, which motivates most students to work hard and achieve well.
  • Students embrace diversity and value the school's inclusive nature.
  • Members of staff were very positive about working at the school and feel well supported by leaders.
