This is an exciting opportunity to support the Director of Public Health to lead on improving health and wellbeing in Lewisham as one of two Senior Consultants in Public Health within the Lewisham Public Health team.

What's the role?

Senior Consultant in Public Health (Health Inequalities, Health in all Policies and Health Protection)

The successful candidate will take a lead role on behalf of the Director of Public Health in developing strategic plans for securing health improvement both in the general population and in vulnerable groups at high risk of poor health and/or reduced life expectancy. This will be achieved by working in partnership with a range of agencies such as those in the statutory, non-statutory, voluntary and private sectors.

The post-holder will lead a specific Public Health portfolio that includes - providing strategic direction and oversight of Health in all Policies and Health Inequalities initiatives e.g. the Lewisham Food Justice Action Plan, Health Inequalities and Health Equity Programme, and acting as the local authority's lead for Health Protection providing a point of liaison between UKHSA South London Health Protection Team, Local Authority partners and local providers of National Cancer Screening Programmes.

Our ideal candidate will be on the GMC Specialist Register, the GDC Specialist List, or the UK Public Health Register for Public Health Specialists. If not currently listed, you will need to demonstrate inclusion within six months.

    What we're looking for

    You will be a strategic thinker, with demonstrated knowledge and skills of working within a local authority public health environment at a senior level. You will have technical expertise and be a leader that demonstrates visibility and impact.

    Location

    The job is primarily based in Laurence House in Catford, but we operate a hybrid approach where you will be required to work both in the office and from home on a regular basis.
