Trainee Solicitor / Solicitor Apprentice for the JD Group

The Role:

You will provide high quality legal services in a range of legal disciplines across the JD Group, whilst gaining competency to qualify as a solicitor. We are looking for candidates who are motivated and enthusiastic and keen to pursue a legal career working with our friendly and experienced Legal Team.

The Legal Team is dynamic and hard-working. As a member of the team, you will work across the whole JD Group, supporting our business globally.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

Gain competency to meet the required standards for qualification as a solicitor, maintain the training record and proactively manage self-development. Understanding JD Group, its businesses, its strategy and how JD Legal helps to support the successful delivery of that strategy. Undertake a wide variety of work supporting the JD Legal team, gaining relevant experience and supporting the Group. This will include: Undertaking legal research and advising stakeholders. Providing training to colleagues within JD Legal and across the Group. Instructing external law firms and managing engagement with internal clients. Assisting with drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements. Completion of contract templates to support the business (e.g. confidentiality agreements, sponsorship/influencer agreements - across sports, fashion and music, consumer facing terms and conditions, competition and promotions). Administering and managing consumer claims. Collation, execution and organisation of legal documents (including notarisations as and when required). The successful candidate will support the running of the team through the triage of work; administration of databases, filing and knowhow systems; and other required tasks. Attend all required courses or training to complete SQE examinations. Comply with the Rules of Professional Conduct of Solicitors. There may be an opportunity to spend 6 months on secondment with an external law firm.

Skills/Experience/Knowledge Needed:

Recognised legal qualification such as a law degree or similar. This is a busy role in a busy and high performing team. Must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, assisting with a range of legal matters and administrative tasks. Methodical and logical approach, with great attention to detail and strong organisational skills Able to take direction and work independently. Guidance, training and supervision will be provided. Self-motivated and with an ambiton to pursue a legal career. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with other colleagues internally, both within the Legal Team and across all business areas. Clear, concise and effective communication skills.

Desirable:

Previous legal experience is beneficial but not required. Experience of undertaking legal research and analysis. Experience of engaging with stakeholders and demonstrating commercial acumen.

Qualification support

JD Group will support you in achieving qualification either through the SQE route alongside a 2-year fixed-term training contract or through a 30 to 36 month day-release to college to achieve the level 7 Solicitor Apprenticship route. Course and exam funding will be provided through the apprenticeship levy
