The Post

The College is seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated teacher to join the highly successful Music Department. The post is available from 1 September 2024 on a permanent, part-time basis (47.62% %). The post would equally suit an experienced or Early Careers Teacher (ECT). For ECTs, a full programme of training and development will be provided.

All new members of staff receive mentors to help them settle into the College. This post provides an exciting opportunity for those wishing to specialise in sixth form education. Candidates who have little or no experience teaching Music at A Level standard are still encouraged to apply, as the Department can support those wishing to make the transition to sixth form teaching.

The Department

The Music Department is located in the Music Centre, which consists of a performance space, recording studio, Mac suite, practise rooms and several soundproof booths for students to work and rehearse in.

The team consists of three other teachers, who work closely in a collaborative style, contributing to central teaching resources. The Department is supported by a specialist Music Technician.

The Department is led by a Head of Department, supported by Course Leaders for each of the qualifications offered. The Department meets once a week during the College's dedicated Meeting Slot during the College day.

The Department has an excellent record of outstanding student achievement, high quality provision and innovative curriculum development. Students regularly progress onto university courses for Music, Music Technology, Music Production, Song Writing and Sound Engineering, as well as conservatoires.

The Department offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities including choirs, bands and chamber ensembles and encourages students to regularly perform at College Community Events, Open Evenings and other special occasions.

The Department hosts Winter and Spring Concerts on site and an annual Battle of the Bands gig at the local theatre.

Courses

The Departments offer the following courses:

· A Level Music

· A Level Music Technology

· BTEC Level 3 Music (Performance)

The successful candidate will be expected to teach primarily on the A Level Music Technology and BTEC Level 3 Music courses.

Salary

The full-time equivalent salary for this post is up to £48,516 per annum.

The contact time for a full-time teacher is 21 hours per week (20 hours teaching and 1 hour Tutor). ECTs receive a 5% or 10% reduction on their timetable depending on whether they are a first or second year ECT.
