This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and enthusiastic teacher to join our team We wish to appoint a specialist teacher to work primarily as part of the multi-disciplinary Cambridge and Peterborough Foundation Trust (CPFT), Community Eating Disorders Team supporting young people with eating disorders who are being treated in the community. Engagement in education is a key protective factor in supporting YP and this role is a vital link between the CPFT multi-disciplinary team, patient, family/carers and education providers.

Pilgrim Pathways School is an outstanding alternative provision for 4-18 year olds, which includes four centres split over two hospital sites, and an outreach service:

· Community Eating Disorders Education Team provides education to young people currently accessing the Community Eating Disorders Team – a complex eating disorders specialist service for young people from 12-18 years old.

· Darwin Learning Centre provides education to young people currently accessing the Darwin Centre for Young People - a Tier 4 adolescent psychiatric unit for young people from the ages of 13-17 years old with mental health difficulties.

· Croft Centre provides education to young people currently accessing The Croft Children and Families unit – a social, emotional and behavioural difficulties specialist unit for children aged 4-13 years old.

· Addenbrooke's Hospital education team provide education to children and young people across the Addenbrooke's' site aged 4-18 years old who have physical health conditions.

· The Home Treatment Team which provides a service to young people who are aged and their parents/carers whilst they are in the acute phase of mental illness and present with severe impairment), significant risk or high complexity where a community CAMHS provision would not be sufficient to engage the family and/ or Young Person, contain risk or progress treatment.

This is a local authority role, with the successful candidate working primarily with the Community Eating Disorders Team and (time allowing) across The Pilgrim Pathways School in a teaching capacity on set days. This role would suit an experienced teacher, who has significant understanding and experience of supporting children and young people with special educational needs, SEMH presentations and difficulties, particularly eating disorders. We are looking for someone with extensive experience of teaching and engaging a broad range of learners, as well as supporting young people with a range of SEMH needs pastorally, including re-engaging in education, with considerable knowledge of special needs within a secondary context.

Pilgrim Pathways School is currently going through some exciting developments – including the planning and shaping the development of the education provision in the New Children's Hospital at Addenbrooke's and developing our outreach service. This is an exciting time for our dynamic and unique school, and for you to join us on our ongoing journey of delivering excellence in hospital and SEND education.

We seek an individual who:

Is ambitious about what young people can achieve and is committed to providing excellent support and teaching

Respects the holistic nature of every young person's education, and nurtures the talents of each individual

Has the ability to motivate and drive school improvement as part of a team

Is able to be the school's spokesperson in the Community Eating Disorders Team and share the school's vision and values at every opportunity

Is committed to their own professional development and takes an interest in developments in education

Is imaginative, innovative and keen to create inspiring learning opportunities

Has a passion for teaching and a track record of outstanding practice

Has an understanding of young people with mental health and/or physical difficulties particularly eating disorders

Has excellent communication skills and the ability to engage and inspire young people

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of building effective relationships with young people and an awareness of how trauma and SEMH difficulties can impact on young people attendance in school and engagement in education. You will have a proven ability to communicate at all levels and be able to work as part of a team.

The successful candidate will be joining our team of passionate, skilled and friendly practitioners who are committed to providing high quality learning opportunities to young people during their time at the Pilgrim Pathways School.

You will need to have an unconditional and positive regard for the well-being of the young people, have a friendly and patient approach and promote the inclusion of all pupils ensuring they have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.

We offer

An opportunity to work in a unique educational setting

A chance to work within a supportive multi-disciplinary team of therapy staff, medical staff and teachers

A learning community with a strong commitment to CPD

The support of a wide network of experts and access to informal and formal professional development

The potential for future progression both within this role and the wider school

A small and friendly team of leaders, teachers and staff that are welcoming, skilled and dedicated to our pupils

Collaborative planning with centralised, shared units of work and resources

A committed and supportive management committee

A good work-life balance: generous non-contact time is allocated.

The opportunity to work with often high-achieving students in small groups, seeing the positive difference education makes in their lives.

Enhanced DBS
