A secondment opportunity has arisen to appoint a dynamic, forward thinking and experienced music professional to lead the Instrumental Music Service in East Lothian Council. The service is currently undergoing a period of redesign and the successful candidate will lead this change as a priority as well as providing leadership and line management of the Instrumental Music Instructor team and providing performing opportunities for our young people. The service is highly successful and valued by pupils, parents, schools and the wider East Lothian community.

The successful candidate will be creative, with a focus on maximising the resources available to provide a fully inclusive and equitable service across all school communities. The secondee will play a key role in evaluating and reshaping our Instrumental Music Service so it is sustainable for the future.

The secondment is initially to the end of the financial year, 31 March 2025 but may be extended to the end of the academic session 2024/25 to complete the implementation of the outcome of the service review. The post is offered on a sessional basis and is open to applicants on a full time or part-time basis. Full time applicants may be required to deliver some limited music instruction to minimise the impact on pupils already on formal pathways. Applicants should seek permission from their line manager for release before applying for this post.

Manage the instrumental music service, take a strategic lead on the delivery and development of the service, ensuring the provision of high quality learning opportunities and an inspiring and engaging programme across the authority.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Music or teaching and able to demonstrate considerable experience in playing and teaching music or vocal music.

Driving Licence
A full current driving licence is desirable for this post.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
