Product Controller

Centrica Energy is the trading arm of Centrica. We trade gas, power and LNG and provide the route to market for our upstream and power generation operations.

Around 700 people work for Centrica Energy in our offices in London, Denmark, Germany, Sweden and Singapore.

As a Product Controller, you will be the subject matter expert with regards to complex, exotic / structured / Asset trades and business activities for Product Control. You will have daily interaction with trading as well as other control and support functions across the business.

We are looking for someone with an interest in Product Control/Finance who is a dynamic, engaging self-starter with an eagerness to learn more about the energy trading industry. Product Control is at the heart of the business, hence knowledge of a trading business and excellent people skills are essential.

This is a London based (close to Marble Arch) role and we encourage hybrid working with circa 3 days in the office and circa 2 days from home.

The Job role:

  • Ownership of daily P&L production, investigation, substantiation, commentary and reporting of P&L & Reserves for assigned trading desks (in CE we produce 46 P&Ls), including comparison to trader flash.
  • Joining rota to produce Centrica Energy EOD T+1 P&L reporting.
  • Active role in driving change as part of the digitisation workstream.
  • Identify opportunities to industrialise processes.
  • Produce weekly P&L Commentary, aligning to market moves.
  • With other L7 team members, research, and present weekly market commentary in team meeting & produce video for wider Finance team.
  • Month-End price testing (IPV, Bid-Offer etc.) at a trading desk level.
  • Month-End production and reporting of both Economic & Financials P&Ls.
  • Pro-active problem solving (escalation where applicable)
  • Cross training across the Gas & Power, Renewables & LNG desks.
  • Ad-hoc analysis and query investigation.
  • Regular exposure to senior Finance & Business stakeholders.

The Person:

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Effective communication and sense of accountability and ownership of deliverables
  • Excel, VBA, Power BI experience
  • Product Knowledge specific to role - Gas, Power, and LNG
  • Team Player with an ability to form strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with the willingness to drive change.
