The Opportunity

As our next Site Fire Safety Manager, you will play a pivotal role in upholding the highest standards of fire safety across the construction project. Your responsibilities extend to ensuring compliance with UK fire legislation, EDF/HPC requirements, and nuclear site license conditions are met within your team of 8 Fire safety advisors/coordinators.

You will lead the charge in fostering a positive Fire Safety Culture, managing a comprehensive Fire Safety Assurance program, and spearheading the development of innovative fire safety solutions. Your expertise will be critical in reviewing fire risk assessments and evolving fire safety arrangements, ensuring a secure environment for the entire HPC Construction Site and supporting contractors.

What you'll be doing

Your role involves establishing and overseeing a dynamic Fire Safety management system, setting policies, standards, and strategies. You'll proactively anticipate future fire needs, aligning construction activities with project requirements while maintaining legislative compliance. Managing the Fire Safety Team, you'll deliver monthly and annual objectives, goals, and KPIs, supporting the overall HPC delivery program. To thrive in this role, other responsibilities also include:

  • Establishing and maintaining impactful fire safety meetings, forums, and engagements, aligning them with HPC site requirements.
  • Championing key roles in regulatory interventions and inspections, ensuring confidence in fire safety arrangements.
  • Managing a proactive Fire Safety Assurance program, addressing findings promptly for timely closure.
  • Generating regular, relevant fire safety reports and dashboards, identifying trends and providing early warnings.
  • Collaborating closely with your Fire Safety Engineer, delivering a mix of conventional and goal-based fire safety solutions.

Who you are

To be suitable for this role, we're looking for you to utilise your substantial fire safety experience, especially in large projects. We're looking for you to be a skilled analyst, where you swiftly identify trends, issues, and risks, while your forward-thinking mindset anticipates future challenges. Your ability to manage complex concepts into actionable insights, coupled with visionary leadership, will set you apart. Other requirements for this role will also include:

  • Hold a membership (or working towards) in a professional institute (fire safety managers or NEBOSH)
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations.
  • Previous experience working at a complex, hazardous site such as Nuclear, Oil and/or gas sites.
  • Hold a Health, Safety & Fire Safety qualification from a recognized body such as the UK Fire Service College, FPA, IFE, NEBOSH, etc.
  • Demonstrate a solid grasp of the principles and practices of Health & Safety & Fire Safety.
  • Proven track record of achieving outstanding fire safety results on operating, engineering, and/or construction projects.
