A four year apprenticeship with an in-depth structured training programme based upon the repair of industrial rotating equipment, gaining valuable engineering skills throughout.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Year one spent full time at IPS (college) and years 2 – 4 spent in each MKE(employer) department, gaining valuable engineering experience and skills from experienced mentors throughout the business. Your duties will include:

  • Building of Electrical Panels.
  • Gaining an understanding of circuit diagram and drawings
  • Assisting with fault finding, electrical test and diagnosis
  • Gaining knowledge of variable speed drives and switchgear components

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
  • Year 1 of the Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard, the learner will attend four days a week within IPS Rochester workshop completing practical skills (Performing Engineering Operations) and one day a week studying the Technical Certificate.
  • In Year 2, the Apprentice moves to day-release and will attend IPS one day a week to continue the Technical Certificate.
  • Starting in Year 2 and continuing until completion in Year 4. The Apprentice will continue to receive regular training contact with IPS all throughout the programme.
  • Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician qualification upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We want our staff to pass on their skills and expertise to the next generation of engineers in MKE. Once you've successfully completed

your apprenticeship, you'll have everything you need to build a career and MKE will do everything to assist you to achieve your potential.
