About Us

The National Institute of Teaching (NIoT) has an unswerving commitment to high quality, evidence-informed teacher education, and is on a mission to improve the quality of teacher and leader development across the system.

The Research & Best Practice Division of the NIoT researches what works best in teacher and leader development. We synthesise and generate evidence showing practical ways to improve training or professional development. We will use the evidence to inform the programmes that we offer. We will also communicate it to schools and providers across the sector.

In addition to being a specialist in evidence syntheses (qualitative and/or quantitative), you will be an innovative and practice-minded researcher who strives to bridge the nexus between research and practice in teacher education.

Key Responsibilities

  • To design and implement evidence synthesis projects related to a wide range of topics on teacher education
  • To liaise with stakeholders in teacher education including academics, schools, teachers, policymakers throughout the process of evidence synthesis
  • To share synthesised evidence with and obtain feedback from practitioners in innovative and teacher-friendly forms

Essential Criteria

  • A master's degree, preferably in education or a cognate field
  • Experience in designing and conducting qualitative and/or quantitative evidence syntheses on teacher education or a related topic
  • Experience in disseminating research evidence beyond academia
  • Be self-motivated and able to work as a team member
  • Excellent command of written English for academic and publication purposes

Desirable Criteria

  • A doctorate degree or equivalent

  • Flexible working opportunities
  • At least 27 days' holiday a year (plus 8 bank holidays)
  • Local Government Pension Scheme

We think a wide range of different work and educational experiences could support you to be successful in this role. We encourage applications from all backgrounds, communities and industries, and are committed to employing a team that has diverse skills, experiences and abilities.
