1. Introduction

We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher who wants to join an excellent department. This post is suitable either for a teacher who is currently in training (ECT) or someone who would like to widen their experience. This post offers real opportunities for professional and career development.

Park High is an 11-18 mixed multi-ethnic comprehensive school of almost 1550 students, situated in the London Borough of Harrow. There are very high achievement levels and excellent facilities.

We can offer:

An exciting learning environment where challenging, innovative and engaging learning is at the core of all we do. An award winning vibrant school which continues to achieve extremely high standards, both in Harrow and beyond. A genuine and active pursuit of well-being for all members of our community. Outstanding outcomes with a significantly positive Progress 8 score and zero NEETS. Students who exhibit excellent behaviour for learning and a desire to acquire knowledge and improve themselves. A supportive, enthusiastic and inspiring team within which to grow and develop. An opportunity to develop your craft of teaching across three Key Stages. 2. Curriculum, staffing and resources

This is a dynamic History Department which welcomes a variety of approaches to the subject of History. A thriving and popular subject at both GCSE and A-level, we have a curriculum which is innovative, challenging and designed to bring out the best in our young people. Experience of teaching A-level is desirable but not essential, there may also be the opportunity to teach some A Level Politics for the right candidate. History is taught in three subject specific rooms in Key Stage 3 and 4, whilst A-level is delivered in our dedicated Sixth Form centre.

The department has rewritten this curriculum in full since 2021 to ensure that it meets these aims. It is structured and delivered based on recent research into cognitive science - how children learn and how memory works. This means, a knowledge-rich curriculum with regular opportunities to recap and revisit content, using knowledge retrieval practice to ensure that information is consigned to long-term memory. There is a broadly chronological structure to the curriculum, focused mainly on British history and with some studies of wider world history. Most topics are studied as periods and a few are more thematic, focusing on a particular theme over a long period of time. The key themes that are integrated into the curriculum are cultural, social, economic, political and military history; the history of ideas, science and technology, persecution and oppression and beliefs. Through social history, we study the diversity of societies so that the experiences of people based on gender and ethnic origins are seen as an integral part of history.

At KS4, students study the Edexcel Modern History A syllabus. A-level History is popular and very successful, following the OCR A-level. Students study Alfred the Great, Russia/ the USSR and Popular Culture and the Witchcraze of the 17th and 18th Centuries. They are free to choose their own topic for coursework. Many students have chosen to study History for their degree following on from their studies at Park High School.

The department has reintroduced trips since the end of lockdown, including a recent visit to St Albans Abbey and Roman museum and Battlefields trips to Belgium and France.

3. Staff development

Park High School recognises that its staff are our greatest resource and so we invest time and effort into everyone's professional development. We offer an extensive programme of professional development, which offers a whole range of opportunities for colleagues to develop their potential within and beyond Park High School. Professional development underpins all our work.

Staff development is highly regarded and we have strong partnerships with universities and other higher education institutions and we actively support our staff in pursuing Master's and other higher qualifications.

Quality assurance, continuing professional development and performance development all work together well. Training is high quality and often personalised. There is an impressive suite of in-house training resources and these match school values and priorities. Challenge Partners 2024

4. Pastoral role

All staff are involved in the tutorial system, most as tutors with tutor groups. This is an important part of our work.

We are committed to the delivery of Personal Social Health Citizenship & Economic Education (PSHCEe) which all teachers as tutors are expected to teach. As part of a whole-school approach, PSHCEe develops the qualities and attributes students need to thrive both as individuals and members of society. We have a high quality provision of PSHCEe at Park which has been recognised nationally.

Extensive support and CPD is provided for practitioners of the subject. Teaching this subject provides an invaluable opportunity to further develop your pastoral provision as a tutor, in addition to growing professionally by participating in the delivery of our outstanding provision.

Park High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all members of staff to share this commitment. Applicants must declare any criminal convictions as the post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointments will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via the Disclosure and Barring Service and references from previous employers. We are required to conduct online searches for shortlisted candidates in accordance with the Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance in order to identify any incidents or concerns which are publicly available online. We are an Equal Opportunities employer.
