The Series Script Supervisor is an integral part of the management team, with the ability to influence and shape the culture on production as while contributing and maintaining the its high performance culture within the Script Supervising team.


An experienced Script Supervisor, you will manage a team of 4-6 freelance block Script Supervisors and two staff, a Senior Script Supervisor and Script Secretary.

Using your extensive knowledge, experience and passion, you will build a diverse and inclusive pool of talent; nurturing, supporting and developing, to create a reliable, skilled and motivated team.


Approaching its 40th year on air and produced by BBC Studios Drama Production, award-winning EastEnders is one of the UK's longest-running TV dramas.

From its well-known and iconic setting of Albert Square, to its constant delivery of hard-hitting, ground-breaking stories that grip the nation and shine a light on new social issues.


As a multi-cam production, the Script Supervisor will work directly from the gallery, keeping across the use of up to 4 cameras, the Script Supervisor is essential to keeping our actors updated, using their persuasive voices to address any concerns on continuity.

Main Responsibilities


The Series Script Supervisor is the operational manager for the department and line manager of a Senior Script Supervisor and Script Secretary, as well as the freelance block Script Supervisors, over-seeing 4-6 freelancers at any one time across a block.


They work closely with the editorial teams, Directors and departmental leads to time scripts and maintain continuity throughout all stages of pre-production, production and post production.


Reporting to the Line Producer, your duties will include -• Plan and schedule the Senior Script Supervisor and freelance Script Supervisors working pattern to cover all blocks, whilst building and retaining a diverse and inclusive pool of talent.


  • Support the Script Coordinator to ensure that all script amendments & camera scripts are processed and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with and arrange future plans with Producers, Directors and Heads of Departments to ensure editorial and production requirements are met.
  • Create a high performance culture within your team, to include team training, performance and feedback alongside the development of trainee Script Supervisors, staying up to date with and trialing new script and production related technologies in line with company business needs.
  • Work closely with the Producers and Editorial teams, timing early drafts of all scripts and raising any story continuity issues, always ensuring that the soap's notable and dramatic storylines are handled with sensitivity, care and confidentiality.
  • Ensure compliance with BBC policies, guidelines, legislative and regulatory requirements, in order to minimise the BBC's exposure to risk.
  • Being an integral part of the management group, you will be required to attend the production monthly Head of Department meeting and share responsibility for the culture and behaviours on production.
  • Attend the post production continuity review, checking quality of the finished episodes, reporting any errors that may be found.
  • Step in and cover the block supervisors position for production if required.
  • Ensure and maintain a safe and healthy working environment at all times for staff and freelancers working directly in your team, escalating any issues or areas of concern.
Are you the right candidate?

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following;

  • Significant experience of working as a Script Supervisor in drama, preferably continuing drama.
  • Experience of building and managing a diverse team of talent, to include the planning and scheduling of their working patterns.
  • Experience of overseeing team training, including the development of new freelance trainees and the staying up to date with and trialling new script and production processes and software.
  • Experience of working on a multi-cam drama
  • Understanding of good communication and people management skills. Experience and examples of persuading and influencing on set
  • Excellent knowledge of industry policies, guidelines, legislative and regulatory requirements.
Package Description

Length of contract: Continuing Contract

Band: C

Location: BBC Elstree - this is a hybrid role, but you would be required in the office for a minimum of 2 days per week


Please note that this is a standard Studios Production contract and potentially can involve up to 55 hours per week
