This research posting is for six months to assist in the design and data collection of a project to mapping the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise social care workforce in Humber and North Yorkshire. This role will primarily involve a review of relevant literature, a systematic search and compilation of relevant organisations from existing databases, and the creation and distribution of a descriptive survey to relevant organisations. This role will sit within the School for Business and Society with regular collaboration with colleagues at the Hull Business School and within the NHS.

Role

  • To conduct individual and collaborative project research, duties to include: analysis and interpretation of research data; use of appropriate research techniques and methods including design and distribution of survey instruments and design of interview schedules; writing up of research results and dissemination through publications, seminar and conference presentations and public engagement and outreach activities; contributing to the identification of possible new areas of research.
  • To undertake appropriate organisational and administrative activities connected to the research project.
  • To develop and initiate collaborative working internally and externally, duties to include: the building of internal contacts and participation in internal networks; collaboration with colleagues on joint projects as required; participation in and identification of external networks in order to share information and identify potential opportunities for collaboration; attendance at and contribution to relevant meetings.
  • All staff have a statutory responsibility to take reasonable care of themselves, others, and the environment and to prevent harm by their acts or omissions. All staff are therefore required to adhere to the University's Health, Safety & Emergency Procedures.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed

  • First degree in social science subject and knowledge of social sciences to engage in high quality research
  • PhD or equivalent experience in social policy or voluntary sector studies, with particular knowledge of voluntary sector or social care sector
  • Knowledge of range of research techniques and methodologies, with particular knowledge of survey techniques and methodologies
  • Has research expertise in areas that will complement and enhance the department's research strategy and goals
  • Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide ranging audience, both orally and in writing, using a range of media
  • Ability to and experience of writing up research work for publication in high profile journals and engaging in public dissemination
  • Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals for own and joint research, with the assistance of a mentor if required
  • Competency to conduct and experience of individual and collaborative research projects
  • Ability to identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of security funds, with collaborators if required
  • Competency to make presentations at conference or exhibit work in other appropriate events
  • Ability to work as part of a team and also to work independently using own initiative

This is a fixed-term contract for six months.
