About us

The PET Centre is part of both King's College London's (KCL's) Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine, and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). Using 3 PET-CT scanners and 1 PET-MRI scanner, our work includes providing a clinical PET service for >8,000 patients per year from across South-East London as well as national referrals from other UK centres. We also support clinical and technical research programs with collaborators from the Hospital, the Medical School and other institutions. Clinical and research imaging capabilities are greatly enhanced by our on-site cyclotrons and radiochemistry laboratories, with tracers produced to GMP standards.

About the role

The PET-CT Imaging Quality Lead Radiographer / Imaging Technologist is a specialist role where the post holder is expected to provide an exceptional level of clinical and research expertise in the specialist field of PET.

They will support the PET Centre to consistently maintain an efficient and safe day to day operation of the PET service across all sites. The post holder will be responsible for the application of standardized procedure to PET imaging, ensuring Imaging team is adequately competent and trained to perform the scanning procedures required.

The post holder will perform their duties in accordance with recognised professional and Trust standards. They will be responsible for clinical audits and data collection for monitoring safety and performance as required by accreditation and regulatory bodies. The post holder will also work with relevant professional team to ensure scanning protocols and SOPs are in place and updated regularly.

They will be an advocate for the development of the PET service for cross sites, participation in research and clinical activity, exploring new service provisions and delivering best use of the technologies and practices available including continuous advancements. To help ensure patient and stakeholders needs /expectations are met or exceeded.

This is a full time post, and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Diploma of the College of Radiographers OR an equivalent recognised Nuclear Medicine Qualification
  2. Significant experience in PET imaging and post graduate imaging experience with an understanding of the relationship of PET to other imaging modalities
  3. Well-developed technical and patient care skills, including injection techniques, handling of unsealed sources, manual handling of patients (e.g.)
  4. Development and monitoring of imaging protocols for clinical and/or research studies
  5. Supervision and motivation of a technical team with proven leadership qualities and understanding of management principles

    Desirable criteria

    1. Diploma of Radionuclide Imaging or Master level Degree
    2. Well-ordered and accurate record keeping
    3. Ability to work in a team, think quickly and work under pressure with excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to hours and duties
