Fixed-term College Teaching Officer in Nineteenth-Century French Literature and Culture at Churchill and Selwyn Colleges

Applications are invited for the above for a 12-month fixed term College Lecturer in Nineteenth-Century French Literature and Culture to take up appointment from 1 October 2024. The post is to cover teaching during the research leave of Dr. Edmund Birch and applicants must be able to teach Fr1: Introduction to French Literature, Film and Thought ), the nineteenth-century part of Fr5: Revolutions in writing, , and Fr11: Desire and Power in Nineteenth-Century French Culture ). The post-holder will be required to undertake twelve hours of small-group College teaching per week during Terms. In addition, the post-holder will be required to act as Director of Studies in Modern and Medieval Languages and assist in the Admissions process for MML at both Colleges. Primary duties for the directing studies role include advising students on their courses, finding supervisors for them, and the selection and interviewing of prospective students.

Applicants should have a PhD and evidence of significant research achievements in a relevant area, together with experience in successfully developing and delivering undergraduate teaching at university level.

It is expected that the postholder will be elected to a Fellowship at one of the two Colleges and a By-Fellowship at the other. Serving in this role involves a commitment to provide each College with 120 hours of undergraduate supervision teaching per annum to students in small groups. The post is a fixed-term, 12-month appointment to cover the research leave of the existing postholder. An appointment will be made between Point 40 and Point 43 of the University of Cambridge payscale.
