The School of Health and Social Care has an excellent reputation for teaching and research. Our academic members of staff include health policy, service and systems researchers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychological therapists, nurses, social workers, oral health practitioners, clinical psychologists, and sociologists. The School is run over two campuses: Southend and Colchester. Academic staff are supported by a team of administrative staff based at both Colchester and Southend campuses.

The school offers a unique context for the development and application of novel approaches to the study of a range of health and social care contexts, all underpinned by a concern for understanding the wider social contexts in which health, illness and wellbeing are located. The programme is accredited by the BPS and approved by HCPC. The current Divisional lead is retiring from her post and we are looking to appoint a Reader in Clinical Psychology who would take on the leadership of the Division of Psychological Therapies and programme lead for the doctorate in clinical psychology (DCP). The DCP programme is growing research collaborations with the wider university departments including the Psychology Department and other social science and clinical research groups and centres.

The role will require leadership and line management of the staff employed in the Division of psychological therapies, which includes the clinical psychology doctoral programme (DCP), the psychological wellbeing practitioner programme (PWP) and the mental health wellbeing practitioner (MHWP) programme. The postholder will have over sight of the PWP and MHWP which are directed by a colleague and leadership of the doctoral programme in clinical psychology.

Skills and qualifications required

The successful candidate will have a relevant doctoral level degree in clinical psychology or equivalent professional experience or practice. You will also hold a registration as practitioner psychologist with the HCPC and a registered member of the BPS. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate is also required.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in engaging and innovative ways. A record of academic leadership in a range of appropriate contexts (e.g. learned societies, research grants, professional associations, academic networks). Along with the ability and willingness to complement and enhance the department/school's research and education strengths and areas of planned development are also essential to the post.
