Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom The University of Edinburgh Full time

Open-ended, fulltime (35 hours per week, flexible working will be considered)

We are looking for an experience Equine Imaging Nurse/Radiographer to ensure the efficient running of the Equine Hospital imaging facilities, producing a high-quality diagnostic imaging service for our large animal clinical services, research and teaching.

The Opportunity:

The Dick Vet Equine Hospital, Scotland's premier equine clinic, boast arguably the broadest range of advanced imaging capability in Scotland and the UK. With recently updated facilities our hospital boasts a 64 slice CT unit and a cone beam CT for evaluation of both heads and legs in the standing equid. In addition to this we have a cone beam 90cm wide bore CT unit accessible for horses standing and under general anaesthesia. We have a standing low field MRI and with the opening of the Large Animal Imaging and Research Facility access to high field MRI, the only one of its kind in the UK. The clinic also offers nuclear scintigraphy for investigation of lameness. Supported by a multidisciplinary team, our clinic treats over 2500 horses per annum from across Scotland and beyond and our vibrant and diverse advanced imaging portfolio is unique to the Dick Vet Equine Hospital.

We seek an enthusiastic individual to join our team and support all aspects of our advanced imaging service. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and experience handling and working with horses. A background in imaging would be advantageous but is not critical.

The post-holder will work independently to organise and prioritise daily/weekly workload and will contribute to teaching veterinary students in all aspects of producing diagnostic images. Imaging modalities covered are MRI in standing horses, scintigraphy, radiography and CT of standing and anaesthetised horses. Appropriate training will be provided where necessary. The post-holder will also ensure ongoing operation of imaging equipment by organising and planning their maintenance programmes; and ensure effective digital archiving of images obtained from these sources. The role may also involve assisting in other aspects of clinical care/procedures as directed by the equine head nurse.

The post is suitable for a Radiographer or Veterinary Nurses with significant experience of, and interest in, equine imaging. Horse handling skills are essential.
