General

The teacher will be responsible for managing the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning within the context of a broader Sciences programme for ISL's Secondary School.

1. Leadership

Be responsible for leading the development of the sciences program through collaborative planning with relevant staff in the Secondary school and diploma collegeOversee Sciences in managing all aspects of teaching and learning, including curriculum development; assessment and reporting; management of rooms and resources to create a safe and visually appealing learning environment; regular refreshment of displays and showcasing of workLiaise with staff in the Science Department and the MYP/DP Coordinators to ensure the continuity of the programmeBe responsible for reporting budget items under the broader Science Department to the HODAttend all Department meetings and School professional development sessionsParticipate fully in an expanding ISL Sciences Programme 2. Personnel Coordinate visits and performances, both internal and external, related to the taught curriculum 3. Accountability Develop IB Diploma Sciences courses in alignment with the School's strategic plan for the Department and student agencyParticipate in Department meetings, liaising with key staff as appropriatePlay a significant part in the organisation of CWOW experiences for studentsParticipate in professional learning and contribute to regular staff training/meetings 4. Academic Quality Create a happy, challenging and effective learning environmentHave a high level of understanding of how children learn and possess the ability to motivate students to perform at their bestThrough differentiated and personalised instruction, be able to inspire diverse classes, creating individualised, challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all studentsSupport student needs in learning and pastoral mattersImplement curriculum policy and strategic plansLiaise with colleagues and curriculum leaders to ensure effective delivery of the curriculum to specified classes, including selecting resources and managing them efficiently in the classroomDesign, develop, implement and review the Sciences programmeContribute to the extra-curricular activities programme of the school 5. Chronology Instigate and develop an innovative approach to SciencesDemonstrate and encourage high standards of professionalism from all staff involved with Science coursesEnsure all planning in regard to the Sciences courses are done in a timely and professional manner 6. Community Contribute to the development of a positive attitude between the Science Programme and the wider community through cooperative relations, publications, etc.Co-ordinate with the appropriate personnel to ensure that all tasks are carried out by teaching and non-teaching staff in relation to the Science ProgrammePublicise and organise aspects of the Science Department and courses in a timely fashion 7. Administration Coordinate with the HOD to draft all communication about events in relation to Sciences courses to parents, other staff and the wider ISL community as appropriate 8. Communication Ensure information regarding students and student activity is communicated through the appropriate channels, working in conjunction with the Front OfficeAdvise the HOD, MYP/DP Coordinators, Secondary Principal and Head of Operations on all matters connected with public performances, exhibitions and showsCommunicate with the wider community as appropriate, in a timely and professional mannerLiaise with other agencies and support services as necessary 9. Finances Working with the HOD, being involved with managing the annual budget for Sciences courses, making proposals for the best use of fundsEnsure all Science resources are properly budgetedManage the deployment of resources – keeping shelves, cupboards, rooms and areas ordered and tidy Care & Guidance To be familiar with the School's Child Protection Policy and to report concerns to the designated Child Protection OfficerTo ensure all educational practices are in line with the school's health and safety procedures and policies.
