The School of Health and Social Care has an excellent reputation for teaching and research in health and social care. It is at the forefront of preparing people to solve real-life issues in health and society, offering courses and research that both commissioners and employers believe in.

The School is currently going through exciting changes and expansion, with an increase in student numbers, with the introduction of new courses, including the new CertHE H&SC and Assistant Practitioner Apprenticeship.

Duties of the Role

The post-holder is expected to provide academic skills support, including numeracy, study skills and academic literacy, to a diverse range of learners.

In addition, you will be expected to contribute to excellence in education by designing and delivering substantive and effective teaching and learning support as agreed with the Head of Department.

This is a 0.6FTE post and the working hours will be 21.6 hours per week. The working pattern will be discussed during the offer process.

Skills and qualifications required

The successful candidate will possess a relevant degree or possess equivalent professional experience or practice in academic skills support. You will be required to have proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to achieve this, as well experience of developing effective learning environments.

You will have the ability and willingness to complement the school's education strengths and areas of planned development and the willingness to engage in knowledge exchange and outreach activities.

A clear understanding of how students learn both generally and within their subject/disciplinary area(s) and the ability to apply this understanding to their own practice, along with a commitment to the on-going evaluation of their own teaching and an ability to do this effectively, with the support of others where appropriate are essential for this post.
