Risk Manager

Stepps, Glasgow
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
It's not every job where you make a difference for the people of Scotland. But it's what's behind every job here.
Our work keeps Scotland's water flowing, from reservoir to tap – and from sewer to treatment plant.
Do your bit by joining our Portfolio Management Risk Team as a Portfolio Management Office (PMO) Risk Manager.
Our delivery vehicles are responsible for a significant portfolio of work, all aimed at enhancing water and wastewater services across Scotland. The DV you will be working with manage a network of supply chain companies all pulling together to deliver one of one of Scotland's biggest capital investment infrastructure programmes.
You will maximise collaboration, provide consistency, and advise on how DVs and their supply chains can make risk management the heart of their business. In doing so you will be helping Scottish Water meet a range of targets from financial, net zero to customer satisfaction.
What you'll do
This role requires high levels of risk management and communication. Think developing, co-ordinating, and ensuring smooth delivery of the risk management portfolio of work according to Scottish Water's Capital Investment appraisal process. Plus, you'll keep an eye on risk delivery to help us achieve business efficiencies and satisfy regulatory requirements.
You'll be ensuring our Delivery Vehicles identify and manage our risks effectively. You will be managing and maintaining the risk approaches applied across different projects and programmes. Ensuring risk management is robust at all project costs and complexities. You will capture risk intelligence data produced within the business and derive actionable insights. There will be opportunity to continuously improve how we function and manage the implementation of that change within the portfolio team.
You will have a wide range of internal and external stakeholders all looking to achieve programme objectives and outputs. You will need excellent communication with the ability to bring together diverse contributors to get the best results. You will direct analysts to derive key information and support the programme leadership team across their activities.
Plus, you'll be ensuring that the projects deliver their objectives and scope is delivered on time and at cost helping deliver great value for Scottish Water.
What you'll bring
We need someone with a good understanding of risk management, how it can be applied helping ensuring our project managers embed risk at the heart of their activities. You will bring Strong IT skills (especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI) and be able to convey information and key messages to all levels of the business. Experience in Capital Programme Delivery and Construction would be of benefit but is not a deal breaker.
You will have strong communication skills and can adapt your style to fit any crowd – such crowds might be in Risk workshops with multi-disciplinary stakeholders, external stakeholders in the form of our delivery partners and senior management in capital investment and the wider business . Plus, you've got some experience running risk workshops and can handle and interpret data like a pro, ensuring that the results are accurate and interpretable for the relevant audience.
And if you're all about collaborating, delivering top-notch results, taking the initiative, and improving yourself and the team, you're exactly who we're after.
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it's not the only thing that matters. That's why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
You'll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there's our pension (the 'know-what-you'll-get-when-you-retire' kind), as well as life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 7. If you're new to Scottish Water, you'll join us on a starting salary of £41,000. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £51,970.
If you're interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we'll be accepting applications until midnight on 23rd August 2024.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. Screening is conducted on our behalf by a third party, and must be completed before your start date. Don't worry - we'll only start these checks once you've accepted an offer.
A few final things worth knowing...
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you're interested in this job, but don't tick all the boxes, apply anyway We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don't rule yourself out
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We're very used to making adjustments, so please don't be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it's important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don't already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
Finally (finally), candidates who haven't submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won't need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
