Job Summary/Purpose

The Trial Manager recruited for this post will work on the Bipolar At Risk Trial II (BART II) funded via the Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation Program within the NIHR. The trial manager will coordinate a multifunctional team consisting of site leads and research assistants at 5 UK sites, clinician(s), statistician(s), and service user reference group members in the project management of this trial. This will include, but is not limited to, study oversight including regulatory approvals, ongoing study management, and closeout and reporting. Working with experienced clinical trial support service staff, the post holder will ensure that the clinical trial is conducted to the relevant clinical trial regulations. In addition, the trial manager will have line management and training responsibilities for the research assistants.

The role requires a research professional who has experience in clinical trials, particularly in mental health. The suitable candidate will be familiar with the regulatory environment surrounding clinical trials, and the implementation of a quality management system as it pertains to clinical trial conduct.

The post holder will be based in Manchester at the Prestwich site in GMMH. Occasional travel to the others trial sites may be required.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Communication and networking

  • To regularly liaise with the study collaborators and other stakeholders to identify and recruit eligible study participants;
  • To assist with the promotion of the research to stakeholders;
  • To contribute towards the publication of the research in high profile reports and publications;
  • To help present information on research progress and outcomes to management groups;
  • To assist with the presentation of research findings at internal and external meetings, and conferences nationally and internationally; and
  • To liaise with research colleagues and support administrative staff on routine matters.

Decision-making, planning and problem solving

  • To act under the guidance of senior project staff to ensure that daily tasks and ongoing workloads are prioritised and completed within agreed timeframes;
  • To make use of standard research techniques and methods;
  • To help the research team achieve research objectives and deadlines;
  • To report any concerns raised by study participants to the project manager/PI; and
  • To contribute to decisions affecting the work of the team.

Analysis and research

  • To conduct sensitive individual and group research interviews with service users and staff under the guidance of the senior staff;
  • To contribute towards the accurate collection and management of data;
  • To assist with the analysis and interpretation of the results of the research; and
  • To continue to update knowledge and develop skills

Teamwork and learning support

  • To actively participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary study team;
  • To prepare, attend and actively contribute to relevant meetings; and
  • To undertake necessary training for activities.

£35,392 to £42,618 per annum. Band 6
