The University of Cambridge's Office of External Affairs and Communications (OEAC) is looking for a talented, motivated and proactive civic /community engagement expert to help manage the University's civic engagement.

The role holder will be part of the Public Affairs and Civic Engagement team within OEAC and will report to the Head of Public Affairs and Civic Engagement. They will play a pivotal role in identifying, fostering or developing meaningful initiatives and partnerships that bridge the University's resources, expertise and mission with the local community's needs and aspirations.

The role holder will be responsible for mapping, analysing and monitoring the existing civic contribution made by the University on numerous levels and for identifying opportunities to extend and expand on this contribution. They will work with local civic partners and communities to understand their perceptions on "town/gown" divide and their thoughts on how it can be bridged. The purpose of the role, in line with the University's mission, will be to help reduce these divides as well as looking at opportunities to enhance the University's civic engagement in areas including:

  • Health and wellbeing
  • Environment and biodiversity
  • Cultural life
  • Local economic impact
  • The impact of our research on local people
  • Facilities and place making.

The role holder will be responsible for building closer links with major stakeholders in the Cambridge city-region and helping to guide the University's engagement with external institutions to maximum effect. They will look for new and meaningful opportunities to support communities. They will support OEAC in identifying opportunities to highlight the breadth and scope of civic engagement to partners, the media and political stakeholders.

Prior experience in community engagement, stakeholder engagement and partnership building is highly desirable. A demonstrable ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders is essential.
