ODI ) is an independent, global think tank. We work to inspire people to act on injustice and inequality. Through research, convening and influencing, we generate ideas that matter for people and planet.

We are seeking to appoint a Research Officer to join ODI's Politics and Governance team (PoGo). Research Officers in the PoGo team are expected to contribute to the delivery of, high-quality, innovative, policy relevant political economy research on priority themes (conflict, fragility, peacebuilding, inclusive digital tech).

About the Programme/Department

ODI's Politics and Governance Programme (PoGo) brings together global leaders in political economy analysis, who use evidence-based, applied research, analysis and advice to policy makers, to understand how and why politics and political systems work the way they do, how power, structures, institutions, norms, and ideas matter, and how these shape prospects for building a social contract and advancing progressive change at global and local levels. The Politics and Governance team leads ODI's critical work on Conflict, Fragility & Peacebuilding, Democracy, Justice, Human Rights and the Rule of Law; Digital Societies, Technology, AI and the Future of Work and the decolonisation of production of knowledge in International Development. The team also provides political economy analytical support to ODI's different thematic teams (Development and Public Finance, Gender, Equity and Social Policy, Humanitarian Policy, Climate and Sustainability).

About you

  • A degree and post-graduate degree in relevant discipline (conflict/fragility/digital technologies), with some geographical knowledge (eg: Africa, Latin America, Asia)
  • Active knowledge of key international institutions in the sector and beyond.
  • Experience in producing research outputs.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and work across a variety of themes
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate successfully and cultural awareness.
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills.
  • Good presentation and networking skills.
  • Multitasking skills.
  • Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Willingness to travel on a frequent basis, which may include overnight and weekends on occasion
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
