This is a remote working Lead PHP Engineer opportunity to help bring to market a new exciting successor to the existing platform. Any travel to the office in Essex would be covered by expenses and not required on a regular basis. You will be joining the team of an early-stage start-up that is government funded and supported by a larger, established organisation.

The new system is a low code / no code technology that also includes Production Management and AI generated product description modules.

This role will suit someone who has a strong technical background in PHP and related technologies, as well as experience in agile development methodologies who is comfortable being both hands on and able to be part of a small team where you will lead on technical decision making, direction, guidance and training of a small engineering team and function.

Reporting to the technically savvy CEO and Founder, as Lead PHP Engineer you will:
  • Lead the development team in building, maintaining, and improving web applications, ensuring high performance, scalability, and security
  • Develop, test, and deploy high-quality web applications using Hypertext Preprocessor, MySQL, and related technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, design, and marketing to deliver projects on time and within scope.
  • Mentor and train junior developers, fostering a culture of learning and development.
We are keen to speak to people about this Lead PHP Engineer opportunity who have the following skills and experience:
  • Comfortable with PHP 8, MySQL 8, jQuery 3, and Bootstrap 5.
  • Proficient in the principles of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and the Model-View-Controller (MVC) design pattern.
  • Experience with a PHP framework, preferably Yii 2.
  • Familiar with version control systems, preferably git.
  • Comfortable using the command line interface (CLI) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8 and 9.
  • Exposure and interest in technical team leadership and commercial acumen.
