London, Greater London, United Kingdom King's College London Full time

About us

In April 2024, IoPPN, King's College London established a national Population Health Improvement Cluster (PHIC) with a focus on mental health, funded by UKRI. This post will be situated at KCL, working with and across this large disseminated UK-wide partnership spanning 10+ universities and other organisations across the country, alongside people with lived experience.

About the role

This post is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in population health education and research to contribute to a newly established national Population Health Improvement Cluster (PHIC) with a focus on mental health, funded by UKRI. The postholder will have the knowledge and skills to both deliver and evaluate training (lectures, seminars, workshops and online training courses) and also conduct research in population mental health, with equal weight given to teaching and research roles.

The initiative is led by King's College London, in partnership with Thrive LDN. This particular role will be based jointly at two sites: the Department of Psychological Medicine (Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, Denmark Hill campus) and Population Health Sciences (Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine, Guy's campus). This is an interdisciplinary initiative which aims to improve population-based mental health. The initiative includes three challenge areas (1. Children and young people, 2. Suicide and self-harm prevention, and 3. Multiple long-term conditions) and four cross-cutting platforms (1. Policy, implementation and lived experience, 2. Data, linkages and causal inference, 3. Inequalities, 4. Training and capacity building).

The postholder will play a central role in Platform 4 and will be tasked with developing an interdisciplinary training programme to support the development of the next generation working in population mental health. The Cluster as a whole will have a strong national basis in partnerships with community organisations, local government, public health and people with lived experience and the postholder will need to be able to consider ways to share learning opportunities across this broad range of stakeholders.

The postholder will be expected to develop and lead on training co-developed with Platform and Challenge leads in the cluster, including training in qualitative and quantitative methods training and involvement.

The role will also provide an exciting opportunity for the postholder to develop research in this area, drawing from the wider themes and expertise in the initiative.

The postholder will be expected to contribute to network meetings, away-days, conference and other networking events. The postholder will support the delivery of relevant content to other Cluster members and material for external audiences.

This post is split across two faculties - Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine and the post-holder will be expected to work on-site (Guy's campus, London Bridge, and IoPPN, Denmark Hill Campus). In addition, given the national remit of the role, there will be opportunities for travel and working with national partners.

This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31st March 2028.

In person interviews at London Bridge are currently scheduled for 28th June.

The successful applicant will be expected to work on campus at least 4 days per week and must be willing to travel across partner locations across the country for key meetings and events.

£43,205 to £46,732 per annum, including London Weighting Allowance.
