About the role

This role will be part of an established team that acquires and analyses core petrophysical and downhole measurement data. You will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of petrophysical equipment as part of the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP). We are looking for someone to contribute to all IODP expedition activities of the IODP group at Leicester. The duties of this role includes the provision of operational planning and participation in ocean research drilling and coring projects. You will also spend up to two months at sea per year as part of an IODP expedition and travel up to four weeks per year to Bremen (Germany) for the onshore phase of IODP expeditions.

About you

We seek a graduate in Earth Science or related discipline with hands-on experience with scientific equipment and software. We are looking for someone who enjoys a challenge which could be outside their sphere of expertise. Ideally, you will also have a working knowledge of core physical property measurements or downhole logging. You will also have excellent analytical and technical skills, taking the initiative to solve problems, quickly and effectively.
