The Actuarial team, based in the Baker Street office, forms part of BDO's Financial Services business unit, and provides advice on a wide range of actuarial issues. Its work includes assurance services, reserve reviews, capital calculations, Solvency II actuarial function duties and reporting, IFRS 17 transition, M&A due diligence reviews, section 166 skilled person reviews, as well as external and internal audit support, corporate governance and risk advisory. Clients include Life Insurers, Closed-book consolidators, Bancassurers, Wealth and Asset Managers, Reinsurers, Private Equity and SWF investors in life companies, across the UK and other parts of the global marketplace. (We also serve London Market underwriters, Syndicates at Lloyd's, P&I clubs, captive insurers, and MGAs on the GI side.)

As a Life Manager you'll be joining a newly formed Life team expanding on BDO Actuarial team capacity. It's an exciting time as the team grow out the Life offering.

You'll support the existing team in offering a range of actuarial services and tools to a portfolio of clients within the insurance industry. This is expected to primarily include reserving and Solvency II work, but may also a range of other services including risk modelling, risk management, ALM, ESG, IFRS 17, data science and analytics.

You'll be someone who is
  • Qualified life actuary with significant experience.
  • Strong technical actuarial knowledge.
  • Some experience of at least two of the following in life insurance: reserving for accounting purposes; Solvency II Technical Provisions; Solvency II Standard Formula; Capital Modelling; Enterprise Risk Management; ALM. Experience of IFRS 17 would also be beneficial.
  • A willingness to get involved in new areas, including an interest in Data Science.
  • High standard of IT literacy, including a strong working-knowledge of MS Excel and a willingness to learn additional applications (eg Access, SQL, R).
  • IT literate to a high standard, including an expert knowledge of MS Excel
  • Able to demonstrate UK regulatory and Insurance experience is essential
  • A People manager with proven skills of managing delivery and the development of teams would be an advantage
