JOB TITLE: Head Gardener

LOCATION: Lacock, Wiltshire

Following the retirement of the existing Head Gardener, we offer a unique position for an experienced horticulturalist to lead a small team of gardeners in the ongoing care of a beautiful private garden near Lacock in Wiltshire.

This is a challenging yet exciting role for an experienced Head Gardener who will be expected to lead on all aspects of the care and maintenance of the 22 acres of organically managed gardens, consisting of formal lawns with planted borders, terraced pools, a formal rill and water garden. Mature parkland trees, rhododendrons and azaleas also feature heavily throughout the garden.

A fully operational walled kitchen garden with numerous glasshouses grows a variety of fruit, vegetables and herbs throughout the year and the management of this area will form a key part of the role. Therefore, a passion for growing quality fresh produce is essential. There is also an orchard containing ornamental fruit trees, swimming pool garden and tennis court. The garden is well equipped with modern machinery, and benefits from a range of useful buildings including potting shed, workshops and stores.

The candidate is expected to be enthusiastic, hands on, dedicated, self-motivated and able to work on their own initiative. They must have excellent communication skills and be able to support and motivate the existing staff. They will also need to have a flexible approach to their work and be willing to provide occasional weekend cover. In return, our client will provide a competitive salary package.
