Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom Mansfield District Council Full time

Are you ready to be part of a professional and welcoming legal team that offers exceptional benefits and true flexibility?

Mansfield District Council is seeking a dedicated individual to join the team and contribute to our success while gaining invaluable experience and fostering personal and professional growth.

We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Principal Lawyer to work closely with the Legal Services Manager to ensure the successful delivery of an effective legal service. The Principal Lawyer will lead a small team in the field of contentious and non-contentious work in addition to picking up general local government queries. With a high volume of interesting and varied legal cases covering all service areas within the Council, the Principal Lawyer will be a key point of contact for all senior officers and elected members supporting the Council to achieve its key priorities.

If you are looking for an opportunity to progress to the next stage of your career or would like to be part of a motivated and commercially focused legal team that will be intrinsic to the authority delivering its ambitious and challenging projects, we would like to hear from you.

Whilst this role is a general position supporting the whole legal team, we are particularly interested to hear from individuals with experience in Contracts and Procurement, Planning and Litigation. We take personal and professional development seriously at Mansfield, therefore you will also receive tailored support and guidance from our Talent and Skills Team with a variety of opportunities including leadership development to further expand your skills.

Applications are welcomed from Solicitors, Barristers or Legal Executives, with previous local government experience being desirable but not necessary. We believe in fostering a culture of flexibility, and we're open to discussing various working arrangements. Plus, our impressive employee benefits package includes up to 36 days of annual leave (after 5 years of local government service) and a generous pension contribution. Efficient hybrid-working arrangements are in place, ensuring that you can work comfortably and effectively from home when required.

If you're ready to take the next step in your legal career, we want to hear from you.
