THE PROJECT

The University of Essex, in partnership with GN Surveys, offers an exciting opportunity to a graduate with the relevant skills and knowledge to embed novel Geographic Information Systems innovation within a site surveying business, propelling them towards becoming a data and technology provider.

This post is fixed term for 24 months and is based at GN Survey's offices in Colchester.

DUTIES OF THE POST

The duties of the post will include:

  • Implementing GIS into the GN Surveys platform.
  • Ensuring data integration, data accuracy and reliability.
  • Developing scalable algorithms.
  • Creating user-friendly interfaces.
  • Managing the interoperability of GIS with other systems within the GN platform.
  • Ensuring the security and privacy of sensitive geographic data.
  • Identifying cost-effective implementations to fulfil cost-value models for the business.

These duties are a guide to the work that the post holder will initially be required to undertake. They may be changed from time to time to meet changing circumstances.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • BSc degree in Computer Science or related discipline e.g. STEM.
  • Certification in GIS is desirable.

Skills:

  • Strong programming ability.
  • Strong spatial analysis skills/experience with geospatial data manipulation/visualisation.
  • Strong numeracy.
  • Aptitude for teamwork.

Abilities:

  • Analytical mindset.
  • Excellent communication/collaboration skills.
  • Detail-oriented approach to data management/analysis.
  • Adaptable/proactive attitude towards learning new technologies.

Experience:

  • Software development.
  • Experience of JavaScript.
  • Experience of Python or R.
  • Experience of programming AI technologies.
  • SQL Database experience.
  • Experience in GIS.
