Role Summary

Essential Responsibilities

  • Up front review and influencing of new project designs (both at ITO and OTR stage), ensuring ease of manufacture is considered and maximising the use of existing tooling.
  • Review and confirmation of existing tooling availability, suitability, and condition prior to manufacture.
  • Ensuring prior preparations, tools and equipment are ready for production to start on time and, where it is not, taking ownership of finding workaround solutions.
  • Preparing, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring of assigned engineering projects from a Manufacturing Readiness perspective. Controlling budgets, schedules, plans and reporting on the project's status for tooling, technology development and equipment implementation prior to manufacture.
  • The ability to create and analyse mechanical designs of tooling and technologies, using calculations, finite analysis methods and CAD (including preparations of technical drawings and Bills of Materials where required).
  • Interacting with Manufacturing, interpreting their needs and requirements, and representing them in Engineering design reviews and supplier tooling design discussions to ensure their needs are met for problem-free builds.
  • Developing supplier specifications for new equipment and tooling, negotiating best prices and delivery with suppliers.
  • Creating frameworks and Manufacturing Readiness Packs to clearly communicate preparations and build requirements.
  • Establishing production test methods for monitoring quality and repeatability.
  • Briefing and training of shop floor technicians on newly procured tooling or plant equipment and instruction in manufacturing processes.
  • Creating Visual Aids/Job Descriptions Sheets (JDS's) for consistency of key production processes.
  • Support advancing the competitive position of GE's products through continuous improvement of processes.
  • Procurement of new project specific tooling and new CAPEX plant equipment. Highlighting proposals for equipment and tooling upgrades for consideration in site investment plans.
  • Planning and coordinating the installation/commissioning of new plant equipment and project tooling.
  • Implementing Lean Manufacturing initiatives- supporting Kaizen events and leading role out onto the shop floor.
  • Analysing and reporting on production processes, methods, schedules, downtime, cycle times, availability of machines and production waste, with a view to improve safety, efficiency and output.
  • Development and validation of critical tooling suppliers.
  • Flowing down routine maintenance requirements for new tooling and plant equipment to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Maintaining of assigned tooling registers.
  • Contribute to EHS processes, Risk Assessments PFMEA's and EHS actions. Where applicable supporting review and setup of 'out of process' rework activities.
  • Establishing production test methods and methods for monitoring those tests for quality and repeatability.
  • Ensuring that the company's manufacturing processes and tooling comply with relevant internal/external policies and government laws and regulations. Where they do not, take the lead in finding the resolution.

Working cross functionally as part of a global GE team to ensure our customers (both external and internal) are satisfied with their experience of dealing with us.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Batchelor Degree or higher in Engineering or related field. HND/HNC in Engineering/Manufacturing with demonstrated experience performing similar roles may also be considered.
  • Proven ability to set and meet aggressive goals. Motivated and driven to continually improve. Driven self-starter who reacts positively under pressure.
  • Experience in technical project engineering environment.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills. Methodical worker with focus on attention to detail. Structured in approach and well organised.
  • Excellent computer literacy and knowledge of design and visualization software. Computer literate in Word processing, Excel and Power point applications.
  • The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplined project team, whilst working on multiple projects and delivering to EHS, Quality, Delivery and Cost metrics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including negotiation, and presentation.
  • Knowledge of applicable Engineering codes, policies, standards, and best practices.
  • In depth manufacturing knowledge, preferably in rotating machines products, their engineering challenges and manufacturing processes. Motivating and influencing change agent.
  • Flexible approach, willing to work extended hours if required and travel as and when required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering design and design reviews.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Creo, AutoCAD etc.
  • Proven ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to train shopfloor operators and explain complex engineering processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately across the business up to Senior management level.
  • Analysing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment placement to maximise manufacturing efficiency to establish an effective work sequence
