East Renfrewshire Educational Psychology Service is looking for a suitable candidate to join our new Learn Well Service (LWS) as a Pupil Support Assistant (PSA).

The successful candidate will work under the direction of our newly appointed Learn Well Teacher and alongside practitioners from Children 1 st in a new base within Giffnock. The PSA will provide a wide range of additional supports for children and young people with varying needs that are impacting on their wellbeing and capacity to attend school. This exciting new role will involve assisting our Learn Well Teacher in developing positive, nurturing relationships with young people, encouraging and supporting their engagement in learning, and helping to provide a range of positive experiences that will support their wellbeing. The PSA will carry out a range of practical tasks within the base, preparing teaching materials and resources and relieving the teacher of non-teaching duties. A range of administrative and supervisory duties will also form part of your remit.

You must be literate and numerate, have good interpersonal skills and a particular ability to relate to children, with insight into why attendance and engagement in learning can become a challenge for some young people. You should be willing to give physical and emotional assistance to pupils where necessary, and undertake relevant training to provide the right supports for all young people who are accessing the service.

On completion of additional years of service by 1 January of each year, following the anniversary of the date of appointment, your term time salary will be adjusted to include a payment in lieu of the additional leave day accrued at the beginning of each leave year for the first 10 years of service.
